Sir Knox, 8.11, in the Feilding CV.p, run over a m;!; 1 ana a 'lialf, is well 'looked after, and .should lie win the Waipipi Cup on Thursday, his chance will not be o;f the 'brightest. Sir Solo 7.4, on the other 'hand, is nicely in, and a penalty for a win at the .Wasterton' meeting would still leave him a handy weight. Afterthought, 7.11, in the Halcombo Walter, .should run Well. She won this race two .seasons ago, and spread-eagled her field, returning a handsome dividend. Full Rate is in his usual place at the top of the handicap. Handicappars, 'must have a very high opinion of the Officer gtiding, notwithstanding the fact that he has not won a race for over twelve months. The Rover, 8.5, is well in in the Feilding Cup, and with a. race into him at Opaki, should give a good account of himself.
Weights for the Wairarapa meeting will .be declared on Saturday, 30th inst.
IH. Fletcher arrived at Opaki on Monday evening with Sinapis and Tonoy." The former will be a starter in the hig race on Hie second day of the meeting. A large number of visiting horses -were present at Opaki yesterday morning, when some interesting work was done, mostly on the outside of the course proper.
The .morning's work was opened by Miss Vena and Pic-rmont, two of J. Cotter's charges, who ran a nice five furlongs, taking lmin. ssees., the former;' finishing the better of the pair. Piermont is a Bracelet candidate. Bally Shannon (Deeley) and Strath- i con a (Eifiimerson) broke ,away for a i five -furlongs, spin on the plough, which was left hehind in lmin. 6«<£c. Royal Marine (Deeley) and St. Fe-' ■lix .(Emmerson) galloped a mile on the outside, the latter running right away from his opponent, the distance being run in lmin. 481-ose'c. St. Fe-1 lix is looking bright a.nd well, and with ,6.10 will have no end of supporters. Ariatiatia (.Emmerson) and Aloha (Deeley) left five furlongs behind in lmin. 4 : Jiset\, the latter finishing the) better. Dirge (Emnverson) and Madeira (Deeley) jumped off at the four furlong post, and reeled off the distance in 501secs., which was the best gallop of the morning. Sir Knox (Deeley) "and Sir Solo (Emmerson) then went out for a .mile and, a distan-ce'spin on the outside. Sir Solo was always in front, and .held his companion safe all the ujay, the jurney taking 2mm. '2-sec., although "several watches made it a bit faster. Sir Knox went better for Deeley than he has been going on the tracks lately, but Sir Solo struck out in great r style, and should start "favourite in j to-morrow's race. f Negative;; looking well, ran a nice six furlongs with a light weight up. taking lmin. 20sec. without being extended. Divinia, Waipureka, Simple Sam, , Woolnuth, Master Sylvia, Golden' Loop, Red Lupin, San I?luie and a : number of others were allotted useful tasks. . Ineuru, Hinekorangi, Ohinee, and Composed ha-ve been scratched for ■all engagements at the Opaki meeting. 'l'he defection ..of tJie first-nam-ed will'be something of a surprise to double-betters, as she was very heavily backed, and promised to start the hottest favourite at the meeting. The March Handicap is now a very open race. The following are the probable starters and riders in the Waipipi Cup:— Sir Knox 9.0 (B. Deeley), Sea Queen 8.7 (W.- Price), The ißover.-8.7 (C. Price), Red Lupin. 7.8 (J O'Sihca). Golden Loop 7.8 (Meagher), Miscal 7.8-(Weller), Sir Solo 7.4 (McMullen), Ballv Shannon.-7.8 (W. Bell), San Pluie 6.12 (Lorrigan), St. Felix 6.10 (C. Emmerson).
