The Government's first action to supersede the powers olf the Chief Railway Commissioner was mentioned in the Legislative Assembly. jMr Griffith, Minister for Public Works, announced tbat a Board, .consisting of the Minister® for Railways and PuMao Works, and tihe Chief OommiiSisoner, would be appointed for tie carrying out of railway duplication and deviation workfe.
He tiated that two yeiars ago Padiaanerit had voted two millions foif duplication works, but the Go-mmis-sionefr had spent less than half that Bum, T^he. 'congestion on the railways vfas becoming a serious menace.
