■MONTHLY MEETING. (By Telegraph—Special to the Age.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. The monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Board was hold today, all members being present, with the exception nf Mr W. C. Buclanaii. M P. A loiter vsas read from the Education Department, stating that the request for a grant for a new school at Eketahuna had been declined. The Secretary reported that he bad renewed the application for a grant. An application from the Papawai School Committee that children up to standard four be instnicted in school was referred to the Greytown District High School for a report. A petition from Mauriceville West that the sen-ices of tho assistant teacher be retained, was not granted, as tho law will not permit it. The annual reports of the Inspectors were read. Mr Vile drew attention to a recommendation of the Inspectors that some definite scheme for appointments be set up as there was difficulty in securing certificated teachers for country schools. Mr Hogg also referred to the subject, and moved that the decision of the Board to give preference in city ap-j pointments to teachers who have ser-1 ved hi the country be reaffirmed"..This. was seconded by Mr Vile And 'carried. • Mr "W. A proposal was made by the Chairman for reorganising tho.lnspectorial staff and the appointment of a fourth 1 inspector. This proposal, together with applications for position of third inspector was deferred until next meeti"g- , ~ - i A<u-anTof £2O was made tor repairs j to tho residence at Puketoi; £6 for repairs to school at Kopuaranga; £B, tor fencing at Cross' Creek, and £l2 tor residence at Pirinoa. The Masterton Committee applied for asphalting, etc., at the school; but / as this was received too late, Mr \ lie moved and it was resolved that it be referred to the Works Committee tor I favourable consideration. ' It was decided, in spite of a protest ,bv Mr Hogg, that tenders be invited for the lease" for ten and 21 years ot, section 179, block XTH, Mangaone. It was resolved to pay half the cost of the installation of gas at the Lansdowno school.
