CENTRALIZATION.

The movement cf population in the lower portion of the North Island is indicated in the annual report cf the Inspectors of the Wellington Education Board, which has just been issued. This shows that while the annual increase in the 'roll number for the district as a whole is maintained, the increase is practically confined to'city and suburban schools, and the "schools on the Manawatu line. In ifact, if tho Masterton town schools are included in the city schools, there is a marked decrease in the roll numbers of the rest of the district. Tho rolls of the schools north of the Rimuiaka and south of the Haivke's Bay line show a decrease of 9 per cent, in ten years, although the actual- number of schools has in the same period increased froin 9'2 to 103.
