"TAGS."
In another part of this issue tho necessity for greater expedition in auditing tho accounts of public bodies is urged. In this connection, it would bo interesting to know what is the special value cf an auditor's "tag." (5n numerous occasions in every year an auditor puts an addendum to his certified audit, to tho effect that this or that account has not. been properly kept. This addendum .is familiarly known as a "tag." In" nine cases out of ten the "tag" is •treated with open contempt by the •local body concerned. What, then, is the use of such a thing? The Government will one cf those days have to seriously consider whether steps should not be taken to enforce the recommendations of its officials, especially when they deal with the expenditure cf public moneys.
