This performance is all the more remarkable when it is considered tihat the Triumphs had to concede liarge handicaps to machines of equal power and six of the ten first machines were ridden by amateur riders. On Saturday. December 30th, Mr J L Braithwaite left for Wellington on his Triumph motor cycle to make an attempt om the existing figures of the Wellington to Napier jewrd—viz., Store Somio., established by Mr H. L Schaeffer on New Year's Day, 1909, also on a Triumph. In, spite ot several attempts on other makes ot machines, this record has stood to the credit of the- Triumph for three vears. Mt Brathwarte left the Wellington Post Office at 4.30 am on New Year's Day, and arrived at the I Napier Post Office at 10.57 a.m., has time being 6brs. 38min.., towerting the previous record by neatly, two hours. The Triumph ran. perfectly fron start to finish, the only two stops being to take in petrol and oil. it is only perfect machines made from the finest material procurable that oart average 33* miles au hour over 230 miles of New Zealand roads. _ Those who were at the Napier Post Office at the finish coufd not help hut remark on the perfect condition of the machine at the finish. The Triumph is not only made tor speed. It has proved itself to be the machine for hard work and Jong wear, and is perfectly adapted, to New Zealand roads.
