PUNISHMENT OF STRIKERS.
Tlie Minister of Labour lias been taken to task by the Employers' Association, and not without reason, for his failure to take prompt and effective steps to punish those who are responsible for flagrant breaches of the law dealing with strikes. Absolutely no action appears to 'have been taken in regard to the Auckland drainage works strike, while the proceedings in connection with the Wellington tramway, strike are of a -somewhat farcical character. The Arbitration and Conciliation Act has already been brought' into disrepute by the open manner in "which its provisions have been defied. If the exigencies of politics are-going to render its impartial ! administration impossible, then the sooner it is wiped off the Statute Book the better.
