BOROUGH COUNCILS.
The Christchurch City Council is at present asking for the co-operation of other municipalities in an effort to induce {Parliament- to amend the Municipal Corporations-Ac-t, with _ a] view to extending the iperiod for which Councillors are elected to three years. This proposal will have the support- of a large section of the municipal 'bod- j ies of the Dominion. A few years iback the Councillors were elected for a- term of three years, but Parliament, in a moment of aberration, and without- any'apparent excuse, reduced the term to two years. This results in unnecessary expense, and renders it- al most impossible to satisfactorily administer the 'Hospital and Charitable Aid Act, ithe elections, to which body are held simultaneously with the elections of local authorities. It would be a good thing if County and -Boiough Councils were elected on. the same day, and for a similar term.
