LICENSING ELECTIONS

1 (By Tdegraph"-Press Association.) j BLENHEIM, Last Night. Very little interest .was taken to- : day in the poll for the election of. a. Licensing; Committee. Out of over 6000 votes, the highest number polled by one. candidate was 678. Three ofi the old Committee were re-elected, and .two new members. One old member was defeated.

CimiSTCHUHOH, Last Night.. ■For the Christchurch Licensing Committee, four of the temperance ticket candidates were returned, and one independent. No fewer than 870 informal votes were cast, due to too many names being left-. In illiccarton, where- the contest was the keenest, owing to the intention of the temperance party to veto conditional licenses in connection with races,, trots, and the agricultural isliow, the moderate party -was successful by an overwhelming majority.

GISBORNE, Last Night. Great interest was taken in the Gisborne licensing election to-day. The results were:— Dewing (Liquor) 755; Hepburn • (Liquor) 723; Somervijle (Prohibition) 555. All tlie successful candidates -were members of the old Committee. The other candidates were:— Coleman (Labour) 397, Hall (Labour) 336'; Beer (Independent) 285. The results from outlying booths have to come iru -but- cannot affect the result.
