Miss Lee, of rfche Lower Hutt, daughter of Mr Robert Lee, is at present a guest of Mrs W. G. Lamb, of Masterton. Mr Jack O'Leary, son of Mr H. J. O'Leary, of Masterton, was married at Timaru recently to Miss Leary, of that township. A Wcsrtport telegram records the death, at the age of thirty, of Mr G. L. Hercus, director of the Westport School of Mines. Constable Dunphy, of Masterton, who has been on a visit to Australia, returns to Wellington by the Sydney boat to-morrow. Master Cecil Crosbie left Masterton (this morning for Auckland, en route for England, per the s. s. Moldavia, His father, Mr R. F. The death took, place last week of a very old Hawke's Bay resident, in the person of Mr William Mayo, aged 69. Mr Mayo, who was lately Master of tho Old People's Home, served in the Maori war, and possessed the Jsew Zealand decoration. Ho 'loaves a widow, four daughters and two sons.

Mr D. Robertson, assistant iteacher of the Carterton District High School, was seized on Thursday last with a severe attack of appendicitis. He was removed to the Daleiton private hospital, where Drs. Johnson and Gunn operated •at once. Mr Robertson is now doing well, hut it will be some time before he resumes duty again. Mr D. Sustins, the now postmaster at Carterton, is expected to arrive on tho 23rd inst.

Lady Fuller will bo the guest of Lord Islington during her fortnight's stay in New Zealand.

The death occurred at Temulca on Sunday (says a Press Association telegram)'of Mrs Margaret Hornbrook, a pioneer settlor, at the age of eightyfour years. The deceased arrived at Wellington in. 1841. She went to the south in 1854, and was the first white woman to land at Timaru. Her eldest son was the first white child born m South Canterbury.
