yr THE LABOUR GOVERNMENT A BLOW AT UNIONISM. (ReoeivcH Last Night, 9.50 o'clock.) SYDNEY, March 7. The president of the Sydney Districi Amalgamated Engineers' Societj complains that since a. Labour Government came into power, what appears to be organised promotion oj non-unionists over unionists has beer, in vogue. It looks as if the Government is aiming a blow at unionism. A meeting is to be held to appoint f deputation to wait on t!he Railwaj Commissioners, and unless satisfactior is given a strike is threatened. The Government intends to introduce an amendment to the Early Closing Act next week, to provide for the closing at nine o'clock instead of ten 011 Friday_ nights. Chemists are to be placed on -fche schedule with other shops. Tobacconists in country districts will ,be given an opportunity of voting in favour of Wednesday instead . of Saturday half-holiday. (Received March 7, 12.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 7. A meeting of employers passed a resolution of sympathy with the Brisbane employers owing to the strike. A collection resulted in £I4OO being subscribed to assist ,in meeting expenditure caused by the strike. WATERSIDE WORKERS. RESUME WORK TO-DAY. (Received March 7, 12.30 p.m.) , BRISBANE, March 7.
