ITPER OPAIvt STOCK SALE
J Messrs James Macintosh and Co. report having lick! their first sale at the I pper Opaki yards on Tuesday, Mardh sth, when ihey offered on account of several fanners in that district a good yarding of sheep and cattle, but unfortunately -a long way under advertised numbers owing u> several lines of lambs not coming forward. Competition throughout the sale was very spirited, especially for good breeding ewes and forward wethers. Consequenly wo are pleased to report having had a good clearance, the whole yarding being .sold under the hammer, excepting 62 ewes. In our caittle entry we had dairy heife:s in calf am! cows rig!.- .>n tho drop wlii-ii sold well up'to hi to rates. Quotations: —-I, (> and 8-tooth owes, lis Id; 4-ycar-o!d ewes, lis 2d; 4 and 5-year ewes, Us lOd; 5-year old ewes, poor condition, 7s; 4, (3 and 8-tooth and f m owes, poor condition, 7s fid to 9s Gd ; 2tooth wethers lis 7cl to lis 9cl; sound mouth ewes, 9s lOd to 10s 4d; forward store ewes, 9s Sd to 9,s lid, small woolly lambs, 5s to 6s Id. Cattle:— Dairy heifers, to £3 16s ; cows in drop, really agood, £7 17s 6d to £8 2s 6d. Jho Xew Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:— "\\ o submitted a catalogue of upwards of 1500 sheep, embracing all classes. Bidding wias fairly keen throughout, and we aro pleased to bo able to report a clearance with tho exception of two small pens. Tho rates obtained were ; quite equal or in advance of recent sales, and on the whole tho sale may he considered highly satisfactory to the vendors. Tho foil owing is tho general run of prices:—Best breeding ewes,to 12s; fair class ewes, 8s 6d to 10s 3d; failing ewes, 6s 6d to 7s 6d; culls, 3s 9d to 4s; 2-tooth ewes, small, 10s 6d to lis 6d; 2-tooth wethers, 10s 9cl to lis 8d; 4-tooth forward wetliers, 14s best shorn lambs, 7s 6d ; others, 7s, 6s 6d, 6s 3d, 5s 9d, Lincoln rams , made £1 Is; 3-year steers, £5 13s. j Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., - report : —A large entry of sheep was of- i l'ered to a good attendance of buyers, ' prices throughout being well up to recent- market reports. The following is a list of prices:—Aged ewes, 4s to 6s Id ; medium lambs, 5s lid ;good shorn J l'anrbs, 7s 2d to 7s lOd; 4 and 5-year I ewes, 9s Id to 10s 3d; medium 2-tooth •wethers, to 10s lOcl; aged rams, 10s 6d. We also offered some fashionably brcl Muscovd ducks, which elicited keen competition, and the brood were eventually sold (to Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.P., at .the satisfactory price of 30s.
