MASTERTON RACING CLUB
MONTHLY MEETING. . The monthly meeting-of the Masterton Racing Club took place in the secretary's office on Saturday afternoon, there, being'; present,— Messrs O. F. Vallanoe' (chairman), J. Macara, D. McLachlan, J. lorns, J Whittaker, R, tiJuick, F. Dorset., E. Welch and J. Yates. A letter was received from Mr A. E. Whyte, secretary of the Wellington Metropolitan Club, stating that the Club's programme for the forthcoming meeting had been approved, and also enclosing a jockey's license for J. Phillips. '■ W. D. Thompson's application for a trainer's license was not granted. The secretary was authorised to procure the necessary totalisator tickets for the autumn meeting. Two donations, one of £5 and one Of £lO, were received for the .building fund of the Club. One was from a gentleman who did not wish his name •to be disclosed, and was donated through Mr C. F. Vallance, who was asked to convey to the anonymous donor the dub's thanks.
The donation of £lO was from Mr Macara, to whom a vote of thanks was passed.
A letter was read from Mr H. Welch, who until recently was the Club'si custodian, asking for a refund of monies spent by him during his term of office.— The refund tvas granted. A letter was read from Mr L. G. West, the architect for the Club's new grandstand appointments, asking •for a meeting with the Building Committee, to discuss matters in connection with the buildings.— The matter I was left to the Ground Committee to deal with.
A progress payment to Messrs Welch and Hope, contractors, was passed on the motion of Mr J. Whittaker, seconded by Mr Dorset. It was decided that a deputation, consisting of Messrs C. F. Vallance, W. Cave, Moodie and J. lorns, wait upon the Holiday Committee, with a view to having the shops and business places in town closed at 11 o'clock on Thursday, 28th March, the ■first day of the races. Mr J. lorns was elected Vice-Pre-sident of the Club, in the place of the late Mr C. A. Pownall, and Mr Caselberg was elected a steward of the Club, to fill the place vacated by Mr lorns.
The Minister for Internal Affairs forwarded a totalisator permit for the 28th and 29th March. A letter was react from the -Tele-; graph Department, stating that the custodian's, house at Opaki had been connected by telegraph. 'Mi- C. T. Johnson sent in his resignation as a member of the Club, as he was leaving the district. Accepted.
The following stewards were appointed for race days:— Outside gates, Messrs. Reside and Welch; inside gates, Messrs Piatt and 0. C. Cooper; horses out, Messrs Oaselberg and Moodie; scales, Mr W. Cooper; gate into course, Mr J. lorns; running stewards, Messrs Bennett, Buick and Pihner.
It was decided that the scale of charges be the same as at last meet-
The treasurer reported a credit balance of £295 Is 4d. Accounts amounting to .£.l6' wore passed for payment.
