The Times states that there is reason to believe that Great Britain supports the views of Italy in regard to the right to utilise Eritrean troops. * TURKISH WARSHIPS. TO BE DESTROYED. Received This Morning, 12,25 o'clock. ROME, February 25. It is semi-officially reported that tU© gunboat Volturno ana the waiship Garibaldi have been sent to Boirut to destroy two Turkish warships which are facilitating the shipment of contraband and endangering transports. Instruction has been given that Beirut is not to be bombarded. TURKISH VESSELS BOMBARDED DESTROYED, FIFTEEN KILLED, MANY WOUiNIDEID. Received This Morning, 12.25 o'clock CONSTANTINOPLE, February 2o ; Messages state tnat Italian war-* ships have demanded the surrender of the corvtte Avnillah and a torpedoef. Before a reply could be given, they sank both of them. Neither of them were under steam. The custom house and harbour buildings were damaged. ! The bombardment created a panic, and many fled to Lebanon. Others were forced to take refuge in the armoury, where they armed themselves. In the disturbances in the town, altogether some fifteen were killed and one hundred wounded.
