The incident which was unfolded in the House of .Representatives yesterday, in which it was practically .established that Mr Payne, M.P., was offered a hribe to vote for the Ward Party on the tNb-confidence motion, is one of the most sensational that have ever been revealed in New Zealand politics. One can hardly imagine" it 'possible thrt suclv a thing could happen in a country which iboasts its political purity. And yet the facts are so brutally and disgustingly apparent/ The position in which Mr Payne is placed is anything (but enviable.
