Mr Frank Armstrong, of Akitio, is among the early arrivals for the Masterton show. Mrs T. W. Sparks, of Wairoa, Hawke'a Bay, is at present on a visit to 'relatives in Carterton. Mr J. A. Maedonald, of Adelaide, has 'been appointed engineer and secretary to the Gisborn© Harbour Board. Mr R. Burridge, son of Mr W. Bmvridge, of Carterton, has received -advice of his success in obtaining his L.L.B. degree. Messrs H. Hawke, J. MaMaster, arid K. E. Shaw, of Mastei*ton, have passed in the Senior Civil Sei'vice examination. Mr R. ,E. Williams, of-Master-ton, passed in three subjects. On Thursday next, 22nd inst., %> Hon. ;W. H. D. Baillie, M.L.C., will celebrate his 85th birthday. Appointed to the Legislative Council in 1861, the Hon. Mr Baillie has not missed a single sesssion of Parliament. Johnstone will represent the Masterton Fire Brigade at the Fire Brigade conference at Rotorua. The North Otago Times states that Mr J. B. Reid, of Elderslie, intends to leave the Dominion for London in ■about two months' time. Later on it is Ma- Reid's intention to visit, the Argentine, and he will remain thero for so mo time. The members of the Masterton Cricket Club farewelled one of their number yesterday afternoon, in the person of Mr H. Moorhouse, who has been identified with the club for several seasons, and who is shortly leaving tor England, where ho has accepted a lucrative appointment. Mr D. K. Logan, tho Club's captain, referred to the excellent services rendered to Masterton cricket by Mr Moorhouse, and said that while thev regretted losing him, they were pleased that lie was going to fill a good position. On behalf of the Club, Mr Logan presentoil Mr Moorhouse with a handsome case of pipes and a photograph of the team, and concluded by wishing Mr and Mrs Moorhouse a pleasant voya»o to England. Mr Moorhouse thanked tho members of the Club for their presents, and said that he would always remember his happv connection with the Masterton Cricket Club. Mr and Mrs Moorhouse leave for England by the Tainui this week.
