The strike committee issued an order to certain butchers and 'bakers to return to work, and they presented themselves for work under the Trades Hall permits. Soino of the masters recognised the permits wliilo others declined to take the men back. This is the first open test of the preference xo unionists issue. All the big employers arc holding out and tho Employers' Federation declares that it will stick to non-un-ionists. A stick of dynamite was found wedged in tho tramway points. No detonator was attached, but tho < weight of a tram would havo exploded the chargo if it had not been discover, j ed in time. _ ' Ait a meeting the Mackay wharf labourers decided to resume work. The Bundania, miners have resolved to stand firm and not return to work until the whole of tho other unions do so. CONDITIONS OF SETTLEMENT. NEGOTIATIONS OPENED. (Received February 15, 12.30 p.m.) BRISBANE, February 15. In reply to a question' as to whether negotiations had been opened with the Employers' Federation, it having been suggested that tflie Unions might be met in a conciliatory spirit, Mr Coyne, chairman of the Striko Committee, said he believed so, and hoped so, but the Strike Committee would insist that one condition' of the .settlement would be that all Unionise should be re-in-Btated.
ARHmATION COURT. HEARING OF MEN'S COMPLAINTS. (Received February 15, 8.5 a.m.) iMELROURNE, February 15. The Federal Arbitration Court dealt; with, the application of the Perth. Tramway Company to fix a time and place for the hearing of the complaint by the Tramway Enployees' Associatdon against the (tramway companies in the various States. The case was ordered to be heard in Melbourne, probably next week.
