CARTERTON.

Complaints are being made about j the reckless manner in which a great I many motorists disregard the law of ' speed in the Borough, and outside that as a matter of fact. These furijous drivers not only endanger their ' own lives, but make travelling unpleasant for 'others. Recently several offenders in this matter were brought to book by the local police, but it appears to have had little effect upon many others. Offenders would do well to take heed. A beautiful soaking rain fell in the Carterton district yesterday, and will do an immense amount of good. To those engaged it came a little unwelcome. 'Mr A. Ramsay, chief clerk at-the Carterton Post Office, and who has for many months past'* been actingpostmaster here, has been advised of his promotion to the position of senior clerk at Hastings. Mr Ramsay has had a very lengthy service in the Canter ton Post- Office, and on a couple cf former occasions has had to decline promotion on account of private reasons. In losing the services of Mr Riamsay, the Carterton public will miss a very capable postal officer, who will carry with him their best wishes for a still further successful career. Outside of his postal duties, Mr Ramsay is a prominent enthusiast of the Bowling Club and Masonic Lodge. The Carterton Tradesmen's Association lias decided to close their premises at 9 p.m. on Saturday evening, in lieu of 9.30 p.m. The change has been rendered necessary by the fact of the law preventing the employment of female assistants after 9 p.m.
