MR DANIELL REPLIES.

[To The Editor.] Sir,— If the legal luminary, "Don't Grumble," who this morning through you asks my "ruling" on a hypothetical problem will state his case in definite terms, I will at least express an opinion on his difficulty; but in the public interest he might -sign his name, and thus add value to his question. But, referring <to • the "breeze" at the Trust Lands Trustees' meeting, on your report of which lie builds his problem, the factfc are that the Trust Lands Trust bank account is ' overdrawn— we. have spent more than we ha%*e received. . Some of the Trustees., get.. anxious about and when pressure was brought at the meeting to at once pay a grant tc the school museum, Mr Wagg resented the attitude tak- ' en, which raised the '"'breeze" you reported. I mildly suggested that in the present state of the law there might be merit in Mr "vvagg's con'tention, quoting case there was no need for heated I Avords j but Mr Wagg was to be complimented in openly stating what gossips were saying in the street. If residents really feel public workers are frauds, and, will say so. over their own names, this breeze may - help To clear the air. I might here state that I have for years worked on various bodies with Mr W. H. Jackson. I have found him to be a capable man, who generally knows what he wants, and how to get it. That > is, he works for it. Like other men, he sometimes irritates; but, candidly, I for one should be proud to leave behind a record such as his of work done for the public welfare. There is little need to defend Mr Jackson's character, but the law, in a desire to protect the public, does create sotfpeculiar positions.' Mr Jackson's may be one. I don't know. C. E. DAuMELL.
