THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES. There was a large audience at the Foresters' Hall last evening, which thoroughly appreciated the excellent .bill of fare provided. R. D. Black- , more's popular tale, "Loina Doone" | was a particularly fins picture. The i story, so well known, was unfolded J with" pleasing effect, and though the whole of Blackmore's work was not given, sufficient was portrayed to convey the gist of the novel. Those fond cf glimpses of far-off lands were well catered for in "Picturesque Views of France," jchiefly taken from spots near the seashore. A capital war drama, "The Battle," was much appreciated by those whose temperament runs to occurrences of a sensational character. "Billy the Kid" and "The Wheels of Justice" were also fine dramas. The comic element was well represented, and considerable mirth was prevalent during the | screening of "His Birthday," "The , Scheme that Failed," and "Mustang Pete's Love." The programme will be repeated this evening. FRITCH-HASTINGS RECITALS. Seldom, if ever, has the Master ton public been afforded the opportunity of listening to such sterling literary 'artists as Mr Wilson Fritch and Miss Hastings, who will give recitals in the Town Hall on Wednesday and Thursday evening. Mr Fritch has gained a reputation in this country and America as an elocutionist. Those who have heard him declare him to he in the same rank as the Rev. Charles Clark and other world 'artists. The American newspapers state him to be almost without compeer as an elocutionist. His portrayal of the works of such great masters as Shakespeare and Maeterlinck is sublimely artistic. The soul of the artist is revealed in all the depths of pathos and the power of oratory. Miss Hastings is a powerful literary artist, and her contributions are said to he rare and inimitable. Her appearance with Mr Fritch in various recitals creates a most effective and realistic scene. The Masterton public has a treat in store, and should show its appreciation of 1 sterling art by crowding the Town ; Hall. The box plan is open at tlie Dresden, and the prices of a dmissj ion a re 3s, 2s and Is.
