THE FOURTH TEST MATCH. ENGLAND DISPOSED OF FOR 580. TWO MORE RECORDS BROKEN. AUSTRALIA—NONE FOR EIGHT. (Received Last Night, 7.15 o'clock.) MELBOURNE, February 12. The Fourth Test match was continued to-day. The wicket was good, and the weather perfect. There was -a fair attendance at the start of tho match, but the .total numbered 13,424, and i.'.io takings were £519. Tho main question hero is not, "Will England Win," but "What will they win by?" Hordem and Cotter began the attack. The batsmen were extremely cautious, taking half an hour to score 15. Cotter was relieved by Armstrong, wlib bowled with greater accuracy than hitherto in the match. Hordern troubled Gunn occasionally. The fourth century went up in 369 minutes, and Rhodes reached Hohb's score in 390 minutes, as against Hobbs 269 minutes. Gtulni was watchful and 'patient, and obtained 50 in 122 minutes. A few myites beforo the luncheon adjournment Minnett dismissed Rhodes, who, playing forward, just snicked the bail, and was caught by (Carter. He was in for 398 minutes, and hit 14 fourers, and while not giving an actual chance, he played several uppish strokes. Hearne, the next man, played two balls from Minnett carefully, and from the third was caught at slip.—3 -425. After the luncheon ; adjournment', Foster joined Gunn, and. Cot ter .and Minnett : bowled a few overs, when. Matthews relieved Cotter, the latter replacing Minnett on the other end. Foster immediately became aggressive, and quickly ran into the thirties, At 480 Hordern relieved Cotter (0 for 112). Hordern again steadied Gunn, and Armstrong relieved Matthews (0 for 68). Gunn was caught at shortleg by Hill, who fell out at hill length in his effort, and was greeted with cheers. Gunn- ibatted for 174 minutes, displaying stylish, cricket, and hitting six fourers.—4 —186. Douglas succeeded, and was caught third ball at silly point by Rardsley, in a similar manner to Hill's catch.—5 — 486. * Woollev, tho next man, and Foster, Iwitted cautiously, and the scoring was slow. Armstrong was bowling finely, delivering six overs," five maidens, for 2 wickets and 2 run®, and he was cheered. Wbolley, by off-driving Hordern, registered the 500 in 473 minutes. Foster, by .hititing Hordern, reached fifty in eigjhty-ojio minutes. Foster was then brilliantly caught, left handed, at short leg from a hot shot, by Hordern, -amidst applause. Foster hit four fourers; —6 —513. Mead and Wool ley played until the tea adjournment, when the score was 6 for 522. On resuming, Cotter and Armstrong bowled, and runs came freely off the former. At 543 Minnett relieved him. Wbolley was scoring steadily on the leg side, "and was cheered for magnificently driving to the on for six, and reaching fifty in 67 minutes. He was caught at mid-ion, and hit four fourers and one six.—7 —s6s. Vine was the next man. Hordern replaced Minnett, the latter relieving Armstrong oil the other end. Mead reached 21, and carried England's score to 579, breaking the record of England's Test score of 577, made at Sydney by Warner's team in 1903. Ho was tOien -bowled by a beaiuty. Smith succeeded, and Kelleway relieved Minnett. Smith drove liini for two, and hoisted 587, breaking "the record for Tests, of 586, made by Australia, at Sydney in 1894, amid cheers. Smith was caught at mid-off. —0 for 589. Barnes was caught forward a.t Short leg, and the innings closed for 589, after being in progress 586 minutes. *■ Clem. Hill received another ovation on his returniing to tho pavilion. Ttho Australian fielding improved on , /Saturday's, when the slip fielding was pa.rtieularly poor..
