HITTING THE FARMER.
The deadlock which has been created at the freezing works in the neighbourhood of Wellington will have a far-reaching effect. Not only will it cause a dislocation of one of the greatest industries the Dominion possesses, but it will be attended with a loss of thousands of pounds to the farming community. The stand which is being made by the Companies in resisting the demands of a few dissatisfied men will, however, be emphatically approved by the producers of the district. It is stated on reliable authority that, if the demands be conceded, it will result in an additional charge of at least one shilling -per head upon every sheep that is slaughtered. What this will mean over a period of years one can only imagine. The time has come to make a determined stand, and we mistake the temper of the fanners of this district if they surrender .without a | fight.
