ARE WE SLEEPING?

[To The Editor.} Sir,— Are-we sleeping, Mr Editor? Do we never want to move? For its size, Masterton is one of the best-en-dowed towns in Now Zealand. Beautifully situated, ideal climate, a lovely park, which only a few Mastertoni'ans would part with one shilling to help on a recent Thursday; with a Boil that would grow fruit and to spare, and we buy all our fruit from outside; with our mountains and streams to charm the tourist who comes not;'with an educational endowment which, if properly handl-1. would create Masterton a centre of education, and a\c have it not; with thousands of acres capable of carrying dotible and treble the population, and we have them -not; with conveniences and advantages for manufacturing, and the people have them not; with a railway service that other people will not have, and wo have it. With all .the beauty and advantage.we possess, we are unknown fifty smiles distant, excepting as a dry town—the Wairarapa. Truly we ■must be sleeping, and who is to •wake us? Surely someone!— I am, etc., PROGRESS.
