CANTERBURY AUCKLAND. HOLDERS EASILY DISPOSED OF. AUCKLAND BATTING WELL. (By TeUgraph—Press Association.) OHRISTOHURCH, Last Niglit. The cricket match for the ' Plunket Shield, Canterbury v. Auckland, opened in fine weather, but the heavy rain on Thursday and Friday left the wicket slow, and the outfield dead. Canterbury won the toss and batted-, but made a very poor showing, being all out in a little over two hours. • Auckland's batting was .much better, Sneddon and Hem.us both performing splendidly, notwithstanding the line bowling by Canterbury. ■ Scores:— CANTERBURY.—First Innings.
