IPSWICH RAILWAY EMPLOYEES RESUME WORK. ! PREMIER OPTIMISTIC. j (Received Last Night, 9.30 o'clock.) BRISBANE, February 8. There is little change in.;the strike position, tlie chief event being tlhait the whole of the employees engaged at the Ipswich railway shops resumed work this morning. The Minister of Railways was present, and congratulated the men on using common sense. The Pit ;ier, in an interview, stated that he is negotiating for the Charter of vessels to bring foodstuffs from Southern ports. If any'tradesman wanted protection in order to land or move goods, he could have it. The strikers were not going to hold him up. The Government was ready at every point, and he thought the trouble would soon be over. Mr Badger, manager of the tramways , reports that he has been receiving several threatening letters. It is rumoured that the friction between the Moderates and the Ex- I tremists of the Strike Committee I culminated in two of the prominent j leaders exchanging blows. The strike leaders show no decline in confidence, and are pleased at the way in which funds are rolling in. The steamer Pilbarra. is held up at Mackay, owing to the wharf labourers and crew declining to unload her. The consignees' staff, and a number of others, including the Mayor, unloaded the vessel. j A meeting at Charters Towers declared that the workers would resume, and probatory start on Monday.
