MELBOURNE TRAMWAYMEN.
AWAITING THE RESULT OF CONFERENCE. (Received Last. Night, 10.10 o'clock). ' M.ELBOUR-NE, Feb. 7. A meeting of the tramwaymen was •hold, to air their own grievances 'against the Oomipauy, and to eonsid'er the position in Brisbane. The proceedings were lively. ;A strong section favoured an imntc'diate strike, but the arguments ot the leaders,' that it would serve th* "cause better to continue work an.l 'provide funds for the Brisbane men, eventually prevailed. ' 'Resolutions were carried in favour of. awaiting the result of the compulsory conference ordered by the Federal Arbitration .Court- before coming to a decision in regard -fo the strike. In the meantime all members are ro pay, a strike levy of half-acrown per , week. j The reported intention of, thn Brisbane Tramway Company to delav ''the proceedings before the Arbitration Court by raising objections to a compulsory conference, led l to a third resolution empowering the taking • r a ballot in favour of drastic action to ensure the hearinj* of ttie case during: the present mouth, arid in the eventof the objection proving successful.
