HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARDS
A QUESTION OF REPRESENTATION. At the meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid .Board yesterday, a memorandum was received from the Inspector-General, asking for the opinion of the Board on a. suggestion that the membership be reduced from eighteen to thirteen, with a view to minimising travelling and other expenses, and submitting a scheme for re-grouping the various districts. The Chairman (Mf Eton) stated that, under tho Inspector-General's proposal it- would he possible for some of the outlying districts to appoint representatives from outside their own l districts. At the present time a' representative of a local authority had: to be a- ratepayer in that district. - Mr A. J>» MoLeod did not flunk the proposal of the Inspector-General would be satisfactory. The franchise of boroughs and counties differed, and it would he found, if the proposal of Dt Valintine was, adopted, that the boroughs would swamp the counties. He .was. of opinion that the outlying districts should be directly represented. The Chairman : thought tiiat if it was desired to reduce the number of members, the Act should be altered. ' After some little discussion it was -decided, on the motion of Mr 11. (r. Welch, that the Board sees no, sufficient reason for altering its present constitution.
