CRUEL TREATMENT
v TO YOUNG CALVES. ; CONSIGNOR FINED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) OHHiSTOHUJRCH, La,st Night. ' About three weeks ago,' three ywung calves were sent to Lyttelton on a Saturday a'fternoon, consigned to the steamer John Anderson; for Port Levy. As the steamer did hot go that - afternoon, the railway authorities side-tracked the waggon containing the calves, which remained without food or drink (except for a bucket of wafer provided on Sunday night by the Harbour Board watchman) until Monday morning. At the Lyttelton .Police Court this morning, Samuel hparks was charged that-, 5 being a person having charge ~of three calves 1 consigned to Lyttelton by rail at Ohristchurch, he did omit to supply them proper and ufficaent food. The Magistrate held that there l had been some neglect. ftn<! he fined defendant £1 and costs. ;
