The Niagara Fails ice bridge broke in mdld weather. Mr and Mrs Stanton, of Toronto, and a lad of seventeen were earned down the stream and drowned. Four others escaped to the shore in the nick of time. Had the accident happened Later a hundred peoplo would have been imperilled, as the crowd was arriving for the purpose of venturing out on the ice bridge. WILL A NEW TRIAIeBE S "OUTRAGEOUS AND VINDICTIVE SENTENCE." (Received February 6, 11 a.m.) LONDON, February 5. Mr Arkwriglit writes to the papers stating that Captain Stewart, who was convicted of espionage at Leipzic, is a man of the highest integrity, and was beloved by his contemporaries at Eton and honoured by his professional colleagues. The writer says the Government must demand a new trial. The Globe describes the sentence as outrageous and vindictive. The newspapers are generally astonished at the weight the judges gave to the unsupported testimony of an escaped convict. •
