LONDON WOOL SALES) Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., hare received the following; cable from their London agents, with regard to the January wool sales: —"The sales have closed. The market is barely isteady. There is a perceptible slackness from America." The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London House The sales closed with good competition. . The wiumibev of bales of wool sold was 169,000,.. 68,000 hales of which were taken for the Continent, and 7,000 bales for America. As compai'ed with last sales' closing rates prices are about the same for greasy crossbred, lower by about par to-5 per cent for crossbred slipe, and lower by about 5 per cent for merino inferior and scoured crossbred. There is a decreased American demand j for crossbred wool. Average .New Zealand wool quotations are unchang- I ed. '
