M.C C. IN AUSTRALIA MATCH WITH VICTORIA. ENGLAND WINS BY EIGHT WICKETS. ARMSTRONG IN FORM. (Received Li»st Night, 6.55 o'clock.) MELBOURNE, February 6. Pleasant conditions obtained for the resumption of the match to-day, and the wicket was good. Scanty interest j was taken in tho match, only one ( 'hundred x'tators being present at the ©tart. Barnes was unwell, and Hitch, who strained his groin, was absent. His injuries, however, are not serious, and he is resting; for the Fourth Test match, which commences on Friday. Vine and Strudwick were fielding. ] McKenzie and Armstrong resumed i to the bowliing of Douglas and Hearne. j Armstrong immediately became ag- J gressive, and scored 23 in 12 minutes, ' ■hitting four consecutive fourers off Hoarne. He made 38 while McKenzie was getting 10, and readied 50 in 50 minutes, scoring to-day at.the rate of two runs a minute. Rhodes relieved Hearne, and Armstrong cut him , twice for successful, fours, placing beautifully. Two hundred occupied .180 minutes, and at 209 Hobbs relieved Douglas. The scoring slowed, for the men on the boundaries saved many runs, and an hour's play yielded 93. At 229.-Woolley relieved Rhodes, and Armstrong cut his first ball for four. McKenzie was dismissed by the last ball of his first over. The partnership by an excellent display produced 138 runs in 64 minutes. McKenzie hit seven fours.—&~78 —236. Spencer, the next man, was cauglht off the firsfc ball. —70 —237. ■ Carkeek was clean bowled before he had .scored.B-^0— 246. , 'After "tllie' luncheon adjournment, Armstrong (94), resuming with McDonald, forced the runs, and reacihed has century in 107 minutes. McDonald quickly obtained 30, of .which seven were fours. Three hundred was hoisted in 241 minutes. McDonald was caught at cover. Matthews was again' absent.
