GRANITY FIRE
ANOTHER DEATH. ißy Telegraph—Press Association.) WESTPORT, Ft -iruary 6. A large, two-storey hotel, occupied by Mr Martin, and owned by Mr L. T. Wlatson, situated at Granity, was destroyed by fire at three o'clock this, morning. An adjoining hall was also gutted. The charred remains of a miner ' named Hopkins were (found in the debris. The fire at Granity was responsible for a second death. James Martin, the licensee (who was burnt while endeavouring to rescue some papers), died at tlie Westport Hospital this morning. The evidence at tlie inquest showed that when Hopkins (tlie first victim) was put' to bed he was not quite sober. Most of tJie inmates lost nearly all their belongings. The insurance on the building, which was owned by Mrs Watson, was £IOOO in the State office, and £SOO in the Standard. The ftock " and furniture were, insured for £350 In the Commercial Union, and there was also £2OO in the same office on the private furniture owned by Mrs Martin. '
