EC C IN AUSTRALIA MATCH WITH VICTORIA. POOR DISPLAY BY VICTORIANS. (Received Last Night, 8.50 o'clock.) MELBOURNE. February 5. The weather was delightfully ecu for tho continuation of the match between the Englishmen and Victors, and the change was much appreciated. Tho attendance was very small, and the wicket perfect. Armstrong and McDonald opened to the bow' -<-g of Barnes and Hitch. In Hitch's second over McDonald played the ball on. —76 —90. Brown succeeded, and with three fine cuts off Hitch brought the century up in 113, minutes. Armstrong' w ; as cautions, and narrowly escaped "a'similar fate to McDonald. Brown was executing beautiful off strokes at the expense of Hitch. At 114 Barnes retiredthrough temporary illness, ahd Iremonger replaced him. Brown .scored 23 while Armstrong was making five, and then for twenty minutes Armstrong received most of the bowling and scored.steadily., At 136 Douglas relieved Hitch, and Hearne relieved Iremonger. - Armstrong-pulled Hearne-for four, bringing up 150 in 157 minutes. ';• Brown was dismissed in attenpting to pull a long-hop from Hearne —8 —35 —156. V Brown bat-ted stylishly for 65 minutes, and hit two fourers. At the luncheon adjournment the score stood at 8 for 161—-Armstrong 32, Carkeek 4, .On resuming Armstrong hatted brightly. Carkeek, was easily caught at short-stop, the innings closing for 195. SYDNEY, February 4.~ The selectors .have chosen the following ten certainties (provided they accept) for the Australian team to tour England:—Clem. Hill. W. W. Armstrong, V. S. Ransford. H. Carter, A. Cotter, Dr. H. V. Hordem. V. Trumoer; W. A. Carkeek, W .Bardsley .and R. B. Miunett. The six disgruntled players included have ten days to decide whether, they will accept. Dr. Hordem recently announce! that ho did not intend to 'go, owing to business reasons, but the selectors had no official information on the matter, therefore he.was included. H. Carter.-interviewed, stated that the disgruntled players will wait tiil the whole team is'chosen and then consider the appointing of their own manager. If the team considers that a manager, besides the one appointed by the-Board of Control, is necessary, and approves of Laver. whom the six desire, then none of the six wrill go to England unless Laver goes.
