CARTERTON.

For the twelve months ended January 31st, the Wairarapa Egg Circle paid out £2lOl to its suppliers, and marketed 36,000 dozen e ggs. Mr A. Irvine, until recently chaffeur to Mr McGregor, of Greytown, has taken over the 30 h.p. Cadillac motor car, recently owned by Mr T. E. Maunsell. It is intended to run it for hire purposes in Carterton and sunrounding districts. Mr Jos. Udy, of South Carterton, has just had a ten acre field of oatß threshed, which lias yielded 75J bushels to the acre, and fifteen tons of straw. A euchre tourney in aid of the flower stall at. the forthcoming bazaar in aid of the Fire Brigade washeld on Thursday evening, and passed off very pleasantly. Miss S. Whyte won the first prize for ladies, and Mr E. Wdckens. for gentlemen. Mrs- Rea and Mr J. Hough were [awarded "the booby prizes. After j supper a dance followed. | On Thursday aftea-noon the Carterton Gun Club held a clay bird competition for a trophy presented by Mr J. Gates, patron of the Club. :Mr A. Teal (] oyds). with 19 kills, was the winner, Mr R. Reid (10yds) being second with eighteen kills, having to shoot off a. tie with Mr J. Lauren son (16yds). A sweepstake followed, Mr J. Laurenson being the winner. _ A special meeting of the Totara Lodge, U.A.0.1X, is to be held here on Monday evening, when Bro. J. ■ N - Grant, Grand Lodge Secretary, wall be present to discuss the proposed amendments being brought forward by the Grand Lodge. Mx Boole, of the Carterton-branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has resumed duty after a pleasant holiday spent in t)he South Island. ; '

Mr W. H. Baillie leaves Carterton on Monday on a week's cruise among the Sounds. Mr Baillie joins a party* of friends at Wellington, who are interested in a motor launch built at Island Bay.
