RESULTS OF RAILWAY STRIKES.
The British railway companies have arrived at a common decision with regard to the increase of passenger ifares -which has for some time been in contemplation to mee<tf the increased cost of working caused 1 by .the recent advances of wages to the lower grades. Ordinary Bares are to ' remain as before. With regard to excursion fares, the associated companies have agreed in principle to a 10 per cent, increase, (but no unifartb date for bringing the. change into operation has beeii fixed. Contract ticket-holders have , been selected on most lines to bear some share of the burden, and season tickets are being I 'raised fromi 2f;to 10 per cent., according to distance.
