NEW FREEZING WORKS
OPENED AT TiiKAREWA. M.P.'s WAItXING 10 SHAREHOLDERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.} INVERCAi&GILL, Last Nigjht. A function, which attracted at least 400 people to Taharewa was the opening <of the Southland Frozen Meat Company's, new works there. The works are probably the , most up-to-date in the Dominion, be-,"' ing roomy, well lighted and ventilated, and (having the very latest and best madiineay and ap-pliaioes. The works cost over £30,000, and. embrace not only the usual freezing works operations, but all manner of side lines and by-products. The company possesses 500 acres of freehold land, which it proposes to enrich as a 'farm with j fertilising agencies from the works. IMr J. C. Thom&o'n, M.P., in thecourse of a speech, urged the shareholders to retain 'their shares, a.® he foresaw the introduction of American methods in New Zealand, and he . waa-ned his hearers tlrat if tine capital of such an institution got into the hands of one group, they would have the producers at their mercy.
