MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Council was held on "Saturday, 28th mst. Present,— C Churchill Jackson(chairman), J. E. s Pen-y, L. ?•**?-■ sen, C. Seymour, and Robert Judd. Or Dagg being unable to be present, at his request leave of absence waegranted to him. The Secretary of. the Eketahuna Chamber of Commerce wrote directins attention to tue rut's in the unmetalled portion- ■of Mangaoronga, Road, and desiring to be informed whether there is any prospect of the metalling on this road being completed before winter. As the- amount • voted for this work last* session is not sufficient to complete the metalling,, the Chamber of Commerce, in anothr, er communication, offered to assist tile. Council in obtaining a further o-rant for this important work, in which a.large district is interested. In-reply to a request from the Counicily'Mr'Kummer, late chairman, offer-, ed to make it welcome to all road metal it may require from his metal pit at Dreyer's R-odr, provided it maintains the road to the pit, and puts a fence round it to protect Ins stock. The Club was instructed _to convey to Mr Kunwner the Council's appreciation of his disinterested kindness, which is but one of many instances in which he has generously assisted the ratepayers. . O Perry gave notice that at the next ordinary meeting he will move that foxglove be declared a noxious, weed within the Mauriceville County. Mr McLeod, saw-miller, attended the meeting, and after hearing his statement ro damage to a short section of the road by his timber waggon, itwas decided to accept his offer of m donation of £o to repair the road.

It was resolved to approach . tin' Minister of Public Works -with a view to fitting the grant for the metalling of ''Mangaoronga Road increased by £2OO to enable the metalling to be completed. .-..-• •■Cheques'amounting to £332 12s Id were passed for payment. .
