MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL
ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last evening, there being present His Worship the ■.Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine), and Ore. H. J. O'Leary, F. W. Temple, W. Candy, W. Pragnell, A. Donald, and o. Prentice.. Leave of absence was granted to Cr Hoar. •Mr F. Hunn applied for leave to hold a sacred concert in the Town Hall, .with the object of giving relief to an old* age pensioner named W. Reeves, who has lost the use pf one eye, and has the Bight of the other eye affected.— On the motion of Cr Temple, the necessary leave was granted, as the Council thought the case a deserving one. ' A report was received with reference to a local cab driver, wiho had an accident while ,under' the influence of 'drink.—. The Qtfuncil 1 decided, .oil; the ""motion-.'"of ■'•'Cfr~.Dbnaldy; that", tihe' ■di'iyer -be asked to appear before the Council at. its next meeting. / The -Engineer reported that parts of the footpath in Queen Street'and Park Street were considerably out of order, and required tarring and ing.— The Mayor thought that some parts of Queen Street were positively dangerous.— Or. The Town. CSerk was granted permission to have rctice'seiit..tQ. .those whose rates are: overdue, that 10 per cent, will be added to all overdue rates after 13th February, 1912, and power be given to sue alter the 28th February.
The, Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Association wrote, asking for the use of the. ParC to. hold, a sports meeting on. Easier Monday, and also asking that the charge be reduced. , On the motion of Or Temple, seconded by .Or> Elliott, it was decided to grant'the necessary leavej and that the usual fee he charged, but in ; the event of'tthe meeting not being a success, the Councn would reconsider the matter.ir.f. fees. , -. The Mayor asked that nil Councillors prerent at the Park Fete on Thursday assist in seeing that the arrangements are carried out satisfactorily. ■'.-.'■■.
