THE LABOUR PARTY

MR VEiTCH'S POSITION. In. conversation with a representative of the Age yesterday, Mr W. A. Veitch, M.P., stated that he was thoroughly opposed to the giving of a written pledge by any political candidate. He had refused to give a pledge to the Labour, Party's Executive during the election campaign, although asked to do so. He maintained that these pledges meant the creation of party .machines. They were at present endeavouring to get rid of one party machine, and by giving written pledges they were going the right "way to establish another and stronger political machine. K they .were to .succeed they, must build up their party on sound Democratic principle?.
