NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA t MR FISHER INTERVIEWED. (Received Lcist Night, 8.55 o'clock.) MELBOURNE, January 25. In tho course of an-,•interview with Mr E. 1). Hobcn, of the Palmerston -limes (New Zealand), Mr A. Fisher elaborated his ideas concerning closer relations with New Zealand. For many years, he said, he had held tho ( view that everything should be done to forward this. His party were fully with him in the matter, as had been shown at the Holxart Labour conference, where his motion m favour of closer political, industrial and commercial relations with New Zealand was seconded by Mr McGowen, Premier of tho senior State, and earned unanimously. The New Zealand Government would bo approached to see what Avould be the l>est steps to carry the resolution into effect. He regretted, that New Zealand was not coming into the CommoniwoaJth, but whatever the difficulties might be acadnst Federation, there should be complete co-operation iu the matter of defence. Re norvd. n few years hence, that New Zealand would see its way to assist in making the Australian navy an Australasian navy by building vessels of her own. Apart from this, he coiv sidered there shoulc be a very full reciprocity between Tie Dominion and the Commonwealth amounting even, to freetrade. They should mutually gain strength and wealth if their "n----ductions were fully interchanged.
