("By;Telegraph—Prsss Association.) ' ■ WiELLINGTON, Last Night. Sir Maurice O'Rourke moved at tie University Senate to-day that tihe Senate regrets that tihe Government did not comply witlh its request last session -for an amendment of the law to enable the Senate to grant degrees in Divinity, bait hopes tihe Government will tjhis year comply with the request by submitting a measure to Parliament. Mr James Allen seconded tibe motion. Professor Salmond thought the matter should be kept before the public, though be did not think the Senate would be successful. There wn/fr no need Mr tihe bogey of sectarianism to militate against the proposal. The Clfoancelflor tTeclared «sainst the motion, which, was contrary: to the non-wctarianism of the education system of the Dominion. It was only wihere tliere existed a State COmrcJi that' decrees' in Diivinity'were granted by State Universities. After further debate, the motion wins rtarried by 14 votes to 10 votes.
