THE LATE MR POWNALL.
The news of the death of Mr C. A. Pownall, though not unexpected, wdl be received with profound regret. The deceased gentleman has done' much for'Masterton. He was foremost in every movement which Blade for the progress of the Borough. He vas i respmsible for the initiation and <arrying through of the water and drainage scheme. He gave time, energy and money to assist in do sloping the interests of the toivn, and although there were many who disagreed with his methods, there rre none who denied; his ability, energy, i and determination. In late -ears he was probably not so conapica ms in the public, eye as he was a few years back. Nevertheless, he won his spurs as a public man, and although he has -died comparatively young, he leaves behind him a. record of service which will not soon be forgotten.-
