THE LABOUR MEETING.
The Laibour meeting held in Master-. ton last night was quite a credit to j the party. The speeches of Messrs j Yeitch and McLaren were characterised with moderation, and should ap-' peal to a large section of the com- ' munity. The member for Wanganui, though mot a born orator, is perhaps more convincing than the average Labour representative, bv reason of the sound common-sense of his utterances and the earnest, unassuming manner in which they are delivered, j His appeal to the workers to organise with a view to securing, in the first plaoe, a reform in our legislative System, was evidently most sincere. But what necessity should there be for the workers to organise to secure such reforms as were indicated by Mr Yeitch, when most of them have been promised by the Reform Party ? The platform of the Labour Party includes ,3. great tleal wslich. will come within {•the purview of Parliament immediate(ly Mr (Massey assumes reins, of >' office, "tt tliete was one thing ia\"the addresses of both Mr and Mr McLaren which was disingenuous, it was "the reference to the debt. Both these gentlemen left the audience to assume that the £42,000,o|oo borrowed money ; wihich' had been expended by the Liberal Goveminent had gone to enrich the man upon the land. The Masterton Post Office, and Courthouse, and railway station, to' say nothing- of the departmental ; officials; are gt once evidence that tha (borrowed money has-not all gone to Enhance the value of Mid, Even the worker has- received a ' considerable slice of the benefit.
