The fifth anmnl carnival under the .au.spiVrs of the Wairarann Oniiro_ of the New Zealand Amateur SAvimmms Association w::?-. hold an the Masterton Park Lake yesterday, the most favourable" circumstances. The weather broke beautifully fine, and ■there must have been nearly two thousand snectntors on the ground. The -whole'of the arrangements for the gathering were .perfect, and the energetic secretary (Mr J. A. Mc- j Ewen) 'and officials deserve credit fop the excellent day's sport provided, and for the promptitude with which the various events were got off. Most of the events wore well-contest-ed, and some of the finishes were exciting, which speaks well for the ability of the handieapper. Some of the foremost swimmers of the Dominion were present, including Brice and i Healv (of Wellington), F. Seymour-1 (of Hawke's Bay), and G. M. West (of Carterton). Unfortunately there were only two contestants in the Pro-| vinciial Championship, but a fine struggle resulted between" Brieo and Healey, resulting in a win for the former, almost on the touch. The< Ladies' Bracelet was won in fine style by G. Forman, of Masterton, who promisee to turn out'well. The ladies' event was won by Miss Annie; O'Learv. who acquitted herself remarkably well. The 110 yards Club, Championship was appropriated by A. D. Laing,' of Woodville, but a protest was entered against him on the ground that he belongs, to the Wood-' ville as well as the Wairarapa Club. | Mr F. Seymour (the Napier champion) won the long distance race' (J 10 yards), swimming strongly throughput.
