THE "LONDON TIMES"
ON THE COMMONWEALTH. (Received Last Night, 9.10 o'clock.) LONDON. January 22. The Times, in its annual review, says that the Commonwealth fared •well during the past year, but not so ■weH'as in .the two previous years. While admitting that, the expenditure of Government loans was justifiable. some expenditure ought not to have been incurred. If the burden of taxation were not so severe, there would have been no call for the proposed banking legislation. Discussing New * Zealand, it says that the Dominion continues fairly prosperous, though owing to the country's, indebtedness and the industrial unrest, the'.portion is less .favourable than it was in 19.10.
