Deceased was born m County Kerry, Ireland, and prior to coming to New Zealand was for-some-time in the British Army. After hisarrival iii 1856 he became greatly interested in the mineral deposits o£ : Nelson, and for some years ho under* took arduous prospecting in the Dun. Mountain and Aniseed Valley disfcricts, and he was the discoverer of? the copper in these localities, »Bo of; other minerals.
Mr H. J. Diddams, brother of Mip W. H. Diddams, of the Bank of Zealand, Greytown, has just iiad conferred upon him tlie Companionship; of the Order of St. Michael and St.; George.. Mr Diddams is at present the Mayor of Brisbane, and press comments show that his occupancy of the Civic Chair of Queensland's capital, has been attended with marked success and satisfaction. Mr Diddams is- art, old Auckland boy, where he snentthefirst six years of Ids business life. The Rev. David Borrie, ex-Modera*-tor of the Presbyterian General Assembly, is dead, aged, 65. The late Rev. David Borrie was born in Perthshire, Scotland, and came to Otago with his parents in 1857 by the ship Maori. He was educated partly in Scotland and partly in West, Taieri, was one of the first students to enter Otago University at its opening, and was tlie first student at the Theological College in Dimedin. Ho wasordained and inducted into the Waihola Church' in 1.877, and had charge of it until 1881, when- he resigned and went Home for two years.
A London cable, received last night, announced the death of Sir John IS. A. Murnay Scott, K.C.B. Sir John, who was born in 1847, died suddenly during: a visit to Hertford Houise. Tba deceased inherited £1,000,000 from the late Sir Richard Wallace, Bt., M.P., for whom he was Private Secretary. He was instrumental in securing the priceless Wallace art collection, which is at Hereford House,, for the British Nation. He had been a trustee of the National Gallery and Wallace Collection since 1897. The death, of Mr Kenneth Mclvor, which occurred «,fc "Flowerhurn-," Turakina, on Sunday night, removesone of New Zealand's oldest settlers, and an old resident of Rangitikei. Ho annived in the colony 62 years ago, and after 10 years' residence in the Porirua district, went with his brothers —Mr James Mclvor, who predeceased him about 20 years ago, and Mi" Daniel Mclvor, wP.io died five years ago-%-<and settled on "b'lowerburn," near Turakina, where he carried on sheepfarming. He was a native of Caithness, Scotland. A quiet wedding was celebrated at St. Bridget's Church, Feilding, on Wednesday, tho officiating clergyman being the Rev. Father ()']>wyer. The contracting parties were Mr A. J. May, late of the Feilding railway staff, and Miss Elizabeth Woulfe, youngest dauj'iiiter of Mrs J. Woulfe, of Derby Street. The bride, who was given away by her brother-in-law (Mr Jas. Kennedy, of Tikitapu station, Wairar-Hji-a), was attired in a handsomely braided tailor-made costume, and large blue picture-hat- with lancer plumes, and attended by ' throe bridesmaids. Miss A. Ross (chief) was attired :'n palo blue and a black picture hat. The bride's two little nieces looked lovely in embroidered muslin dresses, ami mob caps. Mr J. Woulfe acted as besfc man.
