LONDON WOOL SALES. BRISK OPENING. (United Press Association — By Elec~ trie Telegraph — Copyright.,' (Received January 17, 11 a.m.) LONDON, Jnnuary 16. The wool sales opened to-day. Bidding was brisk, prices showing an advance of from par to 5 per cent on the opening sales of last series. Tlio New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., has received the following cablegram from their London house, under date 16th inst.: —"There was a full attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by Home, Continental and American buyers being active. The opening catalogues were fairly representative. As compared with hust sales' closing rates, prices are about the same for merinos, and higher by about par to ") per cent for crossbred wools." Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report having received tihe undermentioned cablegram from their London agents under date 16t<h inst: "London wool sales opened with active competition. Prices advanced 5 per cent for crossbreds, merinos unchanged, prospects steady." Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., have received tihe following cable from their London agents, the National Mortgage and Agency Co., of New Zealanl, Ltd., dwted the 16th inst. : "Sales have opened. -,Merinos genem Ily firm, on par with:closing rates ~a: t last sale; crossbredsi show an advance of 5 pei- cent. American ui.-yeis are operating freely." JOHNSONVILLE STOCK SALE. (By Telegraph—Special to fche Age.) JOHNSONVILLE, Last Night. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Johnsonville sale as follows : —A heavy entry t of prime bullocks and sheep came forward, and sold readily at late rates. Brime heavy bullocks realised £9 12s 6d to £9 17s 6d; Hgjhter £9 5s to £9 10s; ligjht, £8 15s to £9; plain, £S to £8 7s M ; good wethers, 15s 9d; prime heavy ewe#;' ? #is 6d; prime Gd; prime laxmbs, 12s lid to 13s'6d to I 13s lOd; medium lambs, lis 3d to lis 6d; piain, 10s 3d to 10s 6d. MASTEBTON STOCK SALE. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report:—We iheld our usual weekly sale yesterday at the Masterton yards, and have to report that we yarded 1226 sheep and 149 head of cattle, which sold at late rates. Our entry in sheep comprised a number of good lines of down cross lambs, which sold at from 9s 5d to 9s 7d; otihers sold at 3s 9d. 4s 3d, ss, 5s 6d, <3.s, 6s 3d, 6s 6d, 6s 7d, to 7s;' 2 and 4-tooth wethers 13a 3d. (Cattle Yearling steers-,..575« 6d, £2, to £2 7s'6d; 2-year steers, £4 to £4 ss;" 3-year steers, £5 13s to £5 16s; yearling heifers, 37s 6d to £2; store cows, £3; forward cows, £3 13s 6d; fat cows, £5 5s to £5 10s.
