At the meeting of the' Mastecfcon Trust Lands Trustees on Friday'evening, a motion of condolence was passed to Mr, John Hessey, a former member of the Trust, in his recent bereavement. The resolution was proposed by the Chairman, seconded by MiEton, and spoken to by Mr W. H. Jackson. The Committee of the Masterton A. and P. The death occurred at Palmerston North on Saturday of Dr. Stccxwcll, for many years a well-known resident of the Southland district, and vho went to P&hneraton to live a iittle over ; twelve months ago. The late Dr. Stock well, who was 62 years of age, came to New Zealand in 1879, and was the pioneer medical man in the Lower" Mataura Valley, Southland. Bishop Mules, who is seventy-four years of age, was consecrated a chaplain in 1879, and has been Bishop of Nelson since 1892. A long record of public service in County affairs is that of Mr A, Matthews.
