AN ABSURD RESOLUTION
The Labour Conference at Hobart passed a resolution that nobody enrolled under the Defence Act should bo compelled to bear arms _ against workers engaged in industrial disputes. Such a resolution is, of course, utterly absurd. The'first consideration in every State is the main-; tenanoe of law antt order. If , the; workers violate the law, and refuse to maintain, order, it would be monstrous that they should escape the consequences of their action. In the event of the police being unable to secure respect for the law, there is no option but for the milirtary to be called ibto requisition.. Anything short of this would produce civil war and, Moodshted. Australia has just as much responsibility in protecting its commteroe from the destroyers within its shores as from those without. And : <Mry -should there be industrial dis■pales' in a country, which isrpoliitioafty controlled by.Labour? -■ '■■'■
