SECURING A NEW PROPERTY. A letter was read at last night's meeting of the . Masterton Trust Lands Trust from the Secretary of the ! Wellington Acclimatisation Society, asking on what terms the Trust would lease 10 or 15 acres of part Rural Section, 29, for a site for fishponds. Mr' D. McGregor, a member of the Sbcietv. and Mr J. G. Miller, the caretaker, waited on-the' Trust in support of, the application. ' ' . . Ma- McC-'-egor stated that the-"So-ciety thought they had a permanent institution, but, as-the Twist knew, the property had been sold to . another party, owing to the price being prohibitive as far as the Society was concerned. The Society was not anxious to 1 remove the fish ponds from Masterton if they could secwe ■ a* suitable place at a reasonable rental. He had been looking at a good many places, and the Trust's property was the only suitable one yet inspected. There were three excellent which it would be necessary for the Society to gain control of. About fourteen acres would be required, and Mo: McGregor suggested £2O roer annum as a fair rental. By a- little planting and judicious laying out the section could be made a very attractive soot for visitors. . - . secretary stated that the pre■ienf lease expired on May 6th. Mr McGregor agreed',to a suggestion that the lease 1 be for 21 years. Mr Daniel! said he heartily supported the proposal.
